My wife and I lived in New Mexico between 2010-2013. I am continually pulled back to this place, specifically, The Pueblo of Pojoaque with her stunning bleached cliffs, endless skies, and the ravens. As I forget the specifics of each footstep I took across the land belonging to the incredible people of the Pueblo of Pojoaque, the scent of coming storms and hatch chile ripening on the vine along the Rio Grande, and the arc of solitary ravens across the sky, I wonder what happens to them when their time has ended.
I painted this for a friend who faded and fought and returned, and still has much righteous work of tremendous responsibility to complete, before his feather is found upon the ground.
Across many days
That washed away
I forgot the name of the sun
And the manner in which the earth began
And the purpose of time
From cloud to rain
From wing to dust
Still air to wind
I fade
But I know the sky
There I soar ever on
As long as the wind
Pushes strong across the land
If you come across my feather on the ground
I have moved on
Now I exist a roaming cloud
From wing to dust to wind
